Last night my faith in humanity was restored.

I had just dropped off my friend at home and was headed to get on the highway. The turn lane right before the onramp is notoriously tiny (like only about thirty feet long tops, and the curb leading into it curves sharply). Since I just bought my car about a month ago, and my previous car was a bit smaller, I’m still getting accustomed to my new car’s dimensions.

Long story short, I hit the curb at about 25 miles an hour, it made a horrible noise, and right away I knew something was wrong because my car was pulling to the right. I pulled into the shoulder at the onramp and got out to check—the right front tire was flat. (Miraculously, the rim was unscathed. I have no clue how.)

So I’m sitting there, it’s my first flat tire (and really, only my second or third car trouble EVER), and I went into a panic attack. My other friend did his best to calm me down and said he knows how to change a tire, he’s done it before. So he got out and I popped the trunk, and he started getting the spare and tools out. All of a sudden I heard voices—some guys had walked up to help.

Turns out they were out for a bachelor party (the leftmost guy apparently got married today, so congratulations to him!), they had gone through the intersection and one of them had seen my hazard lights flashing, and they all decided to come make sure we were okay. The simple fact that they were there helped me to calm down, and they helped my friend change the tire (albeit slightly slowly; we’re pretty sure that most of them had been drinking because of said bachelor party).

They asked us to take a picture so they could have a good memory of helping us out, and then they went on their merry way. I thanked them profusely, saying the world would be a better place if there were more guys like them.

I think we all brightened each other’s night, but they definitely brightened mine most of all.

A couple of days ago my family was in a southern BBQ restaurant so that my Canadian sister could sample the food, and my dad went to go pay the bill, and some stranger at the next table had already paid the whole bill for us and left the restaurant. O_O He had told the waitress that he just enjoyed doing that kind of thing for random people.

Thanks, guy, whoever you are. You leveled up my faith in humanity because you exist, and this is what you do for fun.

My mom, sister, and I went out to grab some dinner tonight at a local sandwich shop. As we were ordering our food we were talking about how nice it was to have some quiet time (“just the girls” as my mom put it). When my mom was paying the cashier handed my mom one of those individually wrapped brownies and said, “In honor of girls night”

It was so sweet and made me feel really happy with humanity. I’m trying to think of a way to pass on this act of kindness, any ideas?

The gift of kindness

mod-blog-personal:

Today I was walking home from signing on…there was a homeless man. I kindly offers him what money I had.
His reply was “Hun a small chat about the weather and wishing me a good day is all I need from you”
So I gave him a small chat and when I had to leave I wished him a good day. I tried to offer my money again, but he smiled and just wished me a good day to. Again refusing the money.

I am glad I was able to make him happy how he wanted! I just hope he is safe now.

STDs on the rise among cats

When dropping off your cat at a veterinary clinic, you probably wouldn’t expect it to come home with a sexually transmitted disease. But that’s exactly what happened to the cat of VCU student Jessica Foley.
